BCS

Assistant Carpenter at Baltimore Center Stage in Baltimore MD from October 2023 through July 2024. Assist in the building and installation of platform, lights, set design, scenic elements, and prop creation for professional theater productions as part of The Maryland Corps Service Year. This program places students in a service position that aligns with their creative and professional area of interest. They work with a support staff team to help guide next steps after their service year concludes; whether that be college, or a career position.

The Head Theatre

This theater can seat up to 350 people and is located on the fourth floor of Baltimore Center Stage. During my time on the team, assisted with — load-in, stage configurations, scenic dressing, and strike of sets for multiple shows. It was so fun to work in such a massive theatrical space.

The Pearlstone Theatre

This theater can seat up to 541 people and is located on the first floor of Baltimore Center Stage. It’s the original theater is also our largest space. As BSC team member, assisted with — load-in, stage configurations, scenic dressing, and strike of sets for multiple shows. Leaning about historical spaces was a highlight of working here.

Props Department

Also known as, Properties. During my time in this department created elements used by actors on stage during rehearsals and performances. Helped repair, maintain, and restore pieces in the archive. Using unconventional materials and innovative tools was one of the best experiences I could have as an artist.

Scenic Department

Also know as Scenery. Used equipment and tools in the Scenic Sop alongside expert carpenters to build large-sale set pieces and backdrops for a wide variety of shows in various spaces throughout the building,. Loved being a part of the team that helped bring huge productions to life.

So, what’s next?

Additionally, collaborated as a team-member in both the Lighting and Costumes Departments. Assisted with stage lighting in The Head Theater and explored hand-sewing techniques in costumes. Excited about using all the skills learned throughout the year at Baltimore Center Stage both professionally and in my own studio art practice.
